EEA is one of the leaders in the process of digitization and presentation of cultural heritage in the region of Central Europe. EEA cooperates with the relevant EU institutions within their activities, including project Europeana.We have developed several solutions allowing cultural institutions to harvest, manage and publish their data, within these activities. These solutions include digital libraries, harvesters, data providers, cataloging systems and presentation portals. One of our main aims is to share our experience and cooperate with others to make the cultural world benefit from it. With this goal in mind, Custodea (www.custodea.com) open initiative has started.
Custodea’s aim is to provide efficient solutions for cultural sector based on open source components. Currently we are focused on the solutions and applications related to digitization. Custodea covers activities related to preparation, realization, management and marketing of open source projects. CUSTODEA solutions are based on our rich project experience and close cooperation with Europeana project. Apart from providing our applications and system, our idea is also to provide recommendations how to solve whole range of problems in cultural sector. WHOM IS CUSTODEA FOR Custodea is open for everyone who would like to contribute in the field of infrastructure of cultural sector on open source basis.Custodea solutions are intended mainly for historical and cultural institutions – galleries, museums, libraries, cultural institutes and mass media that need to deal with digitization. Custodea covers following areas:
- harvesting of digital content and representations,
- data transformation, conversion among formats, mapping,
- creation and storage of metadata,
- metadata search,
- dealing with authority vocabularies, vocabulary management,
- storing and publishing of data (digital library, digital repository), • provision of data – e.g. for Europeana and other institutions,
- presentation of content.
We have participated in the EuropeanaLocal project as a technical partner. One of the outputs of this cooperation is the OAI-PMH harvester, that is available for the Europeana Local partner institutions.

The goal of Slovakiana projects is to protect Slovakia cultural heritage by the means of digitalisation and long term protection of digitised information, support of digital content creation and opening cultural heritage to the public.
